Remember that service drops off significantly at weekends, especially on Saturdays.

•  Cidadela (Castle):
  A well-preserved 12^th century citadel. Within the ruggedly ramparted walls is the original castle – built by Sancho I in 1187 and beefed up in the 15^th century by João I. Then heavily restored in the 1930s.
  - The stout Torre de Menagem (Princess Tower) was garrisoned up until the early 20^th century. It now houses Museu Militar (Military Museum)

• In front of the Torre is an extraordinary, primitive Pelourinho (stone pillory), a top a granite boar similar to the berrões found around the province. 
  
  
• Domus Municipalis (Municipal House)
  An odd pentagonal building dates from the 12^th century. It’s the only surviving example of Romanesque civic architecture in Portugal, served as city hall.

• Museu do Abade de Baçal (Abbot of Baçal Museum)
  One of Portugal’s best regional museums. Set in a restored 18^th century bishop’s palace. Its diverse collections include local artefacts from the Celtic and Roman eras, along with objects paintings and photographs depicting daily life in Trás-os-Montes to the present. Of particular interest are the handful of Iron Age stone pigs called berrões. The museum also features works by Portuguese naturalist painter Aurelia de Sousa and the contemporaries.

• Museu Ibérico da Máscara e do Traje (Iberian Mask & Costume Museum)
  Opened in 2007, the museum displays a colourful and fascinating collection of masks and costumes from the ancient pagan-based solstice and Carnaval festivities celebrated in Trás-os-Montes and neighbouring Zamora (Spain). Costumes are displayed across three floors, with the upper exhibits dedicated to the work of local artisans.

• Sé (Cathedral)
  Bragança’s modest old cathedral started out in 1545 as the Igreja de São João Baptista, but moved up the rankings to become a cathedral in 1770 when the bishopric moved here from Miranda do Douro, it was then downgraded again when Bragança’s contemporary cathedral, the Igreja de Nossa Senhora Rainha,
  opened just west of the centre.

• Igreja de São Bento (Saint Benedict Church)
  Bragança’s most attractive church, with a Renaissance stone portal, a wonderful trompe I’ œil ceiling over the nave and an Arabic-style inlaid ceiling above the chancel.

• Igreja de São Vicente (Saint Vincent Church)
  The original 13^th century church was reconstructed in the 17^th century with the addition of a great deal of sumptuous gilt-work.
  The azulejo panel to the right of the main door depicts General Sepúlveda exhorting the citizens of Bragança to free themselves from French occupation in 1809. 
  The secret wedding between Inês de Castro and  Dom Pedro is reputed to have taken place here in 1354.

• Igreja de Santa Maria (Santa Maria Church)
  Located just next to Bragança's Castle. Has a brick Mudéjar columns, vividly painted ceiling, and a dramatic 17^th century Santa Maria Madalena at the high altar with her traditional long hair and ragged grab.
