The town's golden coast is a real treasure to visit, buttressed by stunning sand dunes and pine forests. The La Meta Lagoon Natural Park is well worth a visit for avid birdwatchers. It's a saltwater lake region with migrating flamingoes. For woodland walks, the Giardamar Pine Forest and Reina Sofia Park are ideal spots. There is a range of great attractions for family day's out too, including Aqua Park Ciudad Quesada and the breathtaking Pink Lake of Torrevieja.
What to eat in Guardamar del Segura
Guardamar del Segura has some fantastic dining options, with cuisine that leans toward classic Catalan favourites. You must try a seafood fideuà while in town, a delicious paella-style dish made with noodles instead of rice, often cooked with monkfish, prawns and squid, among other freshly caught seafood. Arròs negre is another staple, made with cuttlefish, rice and squid ink. For dessert, you have to try the region's famed Crema Catalana, a crème brûlée with orange.

Guardamar hosts a number of festivities throughout the year. In February, Carnival is a must-see with parades along the waterfront and a grand ball. During summer, Foguera's (bonfires) are made to celebrate the equinox. Another magical celebration is La Nit Màgica, a ritual of fire on the beach before the Feast Day of Saint John in June.

Guardamar del Segura has a bus transport system which connects the town with surrounding areas. There is no direct bus to the airport. Instead, you'll have to head to Torrevieja before changing route.
