- Catedral de Santa María (Cathedral of St. Mary)
It is the third largest cathedral of Spain, after Seville's and Toledo's ones, and one of the most relevant examples of the Gothic sculpture in Europe. Inside, we find the Golden Stair, a unique piece in the universal art, made by Diego de Siloé in the early 16th century. Under the delicate lantern of the transept, built in the 16th century by Juan de Vallejo, lays the simple sepulcher of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, el Cid (the most important Spanish Medieval hero), and his wife Jimena. The Cathedral's Museum is also inside the temple.

- Iglesia de San Esteban (Church of St. Stephen)
This Gothic Church was built between the late 13th and the early 14th century, and was in its time the most influential parish church of Burgos. Inside, we will find the Museum of the Altarpiece (Museo del Retablo), displaying a collection of altarpieces from the 16th and 17th centuries.

- Iglesia de San Nicolás de Bari (Church of St. Nicholas of Bari)
Its altarpiece, made in 1505 by Simon de Colonia and his son Francisco, is the main highlight of the church. It contains about 150 figures representing different biblical scenes.

- Iglesia de San Lorenzo (Church of St. Lawrence)
The construction goes back to the 17th century and constitutes the best example of Gothic architecture in the city of Burgos. The facade is decorated with big coat of arms and the image of St. Lawrence.

- Iglesia de San Cosme y San Damián (Church of St. Cosmas and Damian)
It is the most important parish church in the left side of the river Arlanzón. Outside, its solid tower and the Renaissance facade by Juan de Vallejo are the main elements. Rebuilt during the 15th and 16th centuries, it houses inside a Baroque high altarpiece and a 16th century sepulcher of the craftsman in iron Cristóbal de Andino. Also impressive are the Renaissance ashlars, the 17th century Romanist altarpiece and the painting Mass of St. Gregory, by Alonso de Sedano.

- Iglesia de San Lesmes (Church of St. Lesmes)
Jacobean Church dedicated to the saint patron of Burgos, St. Lesmes. It still preserve several Baroque altarpieces, the 15th century altarpiece of Santa Cruz and interesting Renaissance sepulchers, among which we will find the sepulcher and the lying statue of St. Lesmes. The paintings and canvasses inside are also worth seeing.

- Iglesia de Santa Águeda (Church of St. Agatha)
This is a small Gothic church from the 15th century, although the altar was built in the 20th century, neo-Gothic style. Tradition says it was here where el Cid made the king Alfonso VI swear he was not involved in his brother death.

- Monasterio de Santa María la Real de las Huelgas (Monastery of Santa María la Real de las Huelgas)
This monastery of Cistercian nuns was founded by the king Alfonso VIII of Castile and his wife Mrs. Leonor in 1187. The beauty of this monastery can be easily appreciated in the church, the Chapter House and Cloister of St. Francis. In the middle of the central nave you will find the sepulchers of the founders, the king and the queen, adjacent and preciously engraved with the coat of arms of Castile and that of the Plantagenet's family. The visit to the Museum of Rich Textiles (Museo de Ricas Telas) is also interesting.

- Monasterio de San Juan (Monastery of St. John)
It was a Benedictine monastery and a pilgrim hospital, originated in the 11th century. The building of the Monastery is characterized by its big scythe. It still keeps the cloister, the chapter house and the ruins of the church. Nowadays, it is used as an exhibition hall, housing the Municipal Museum of Marceliano Santa María (Museo Municipal Marceliano Santa María), with a lot of works by this local painter.

- Real Monasterio de San Agustín (Royal Monastery of St. Augustine)
Currently, the building is the Provincial Archive of the Burgos Council. The building has been wonderfully restored and preserves the sections between the supporting walls, the chapter house and the refectory. It was founded in 1287 and its importance comes from the intellectual activity that was carried out in it, as well as from the fact that the Christ of Burgos was kept in here from the 16th century until the 19th century, when the statue was moved to the Cathedral. This monastery was visited by figures such the king Philip II of Spain and St. Teresa of Jesus.

- Real Monasterio de Nuestra Señora de Fresdelval (Royal Monastery of Our Lady of Fresdelval)
The highlights are the ruins of the church and the Gothic cloister, decorated with elegant filigrees. This Hieronyomite monastery was founded in the 15th century and is in between Villatoro and Quintanilla Vivar, about 4,5 km from the city of Burgos.

- Cartuja de Miraflores (Charterhouse of Miraflores)
This monastic compound was built during the rule of Enrique III, about 3 km far from Burgos. The Queen Isabella I of Castile entrusted Gil de Siloé with the enlargement works of the church, so it could host her parents' sepulchers, those of John II of Castile and Isabella of Portugal.

- Convento de Santa Dorotea (Convent of St. Dorothy)
Behind its sober exteriors, this small conventual church, Flamboyant style and built in the 15th century, houses two beautiful Renaissance sepulchers, those of Don Alonso de Cartagena and a Bishop of Almeria. These two are among the best examples of Burgos' sepulchral art. Visits inside the convent are not allowed, as it is a closed convent.

- Convento de San José y de Santa Ana (Convent of St. Joseph & St. Anne)
This is the last foundation of Saint Teresa of Jesus. The conventual church was built in the late 16th century and the Classicist facade is its main highlight. The interiors, which can not be access as it is a closed convent, preserve a Neo-Gothic altarpiece and some sculptures depicting Saint Teresa
- Ruinas del Convento de San Francisco (Ruins of the Convent of St. Francis)
Tradition says that the primitive Franciscan community was founded by St. Francis himself, in his way to Santiago. Originally, this community was established in a small church, not far from the city. Around 1226, the Franciscans approached the city a little bit more and settle down besides the Convent of the Trinity. The Napoleonic invasion and the political events of the 19th century accelerated the process and it was completely abandoned. Currently, from this magnificent Gothic building only remain a part of one of the walls and a sepulcher.

- Convento de la Trinidad (Convent of the Trinity)
Nowadays is Cáritas' headquarters in Burgos. The building preserves some parts of the Flamboyant cloister, the chapter house and the Baroque church. The Order of the Trinity established in Burgos in 1206, and became worldly famous because it was de custodian of the so called Christ of the Drops, or Christ of the Blood. The convent was abandoned after the Ecclesiastical Confiscations of Mendizábal, and the image of Christ was taken to the Church of St. Gil.

- Castillo de Burgos - Parque del Castillo (Castle of Burgos – Park of the Castle)
The hill where the castle stands is where the city of Burgos originally started, in the 11th century. It suffered a lot of reconstructions and modifications throughout history, and was destroyed in 1813 by the Napoleonic troops. Nowadays it is open to the public, after a deep reformation process. It also has a view point from which you will get the best views of the city.

- Palacio Arzobispal (Archbishop's Palace)
The current Archbishop's Palace was built in 1916, when the old Medieval Episcopal Palace near the Cathedral was demolished. In its construction, they used an interesting Neo-Renaissance style. Inside, some paintings, sculptures and textiles from the 20th century are still preserved.

- Arco de Santa María (Arch of St. Mary)
It is one of the 12 doors of the medieval walls. Rebuilt in the 16th century by Juan de Vallejo and Francisco de Colonia simulating a triumph arch, it depicts the emperor Charles V surrounded by the most significant characters of the city, and of all Castile. It was the meeting point of the Council of Burgos until the 18th century, and currently is an exhibition hall.

- Arco de San Martín (Arch of St. Martin)
It is one of the 12 doors of the medieval walls. This Mudéjar door, in particular, was the exit to the Way of St. James and the so called Royal Door or Swear Door until the 16th century, as the kings, after swearing the statutes of the city, used to enter the city thought it. After this date, this honor was given to the door or Arch of St. Mary.

- Puerta de San Esteban (Arch of St. Stephen)
The door or arch of St. Stephen is Mudéjar style and was built in mid 14th century. The arch consists of a double Horseshoe arch with two square towers at the sides.

- Arco de San Juan (Arch of St. John)
The door, the pilgrims entrance to the city, as well as the upper fortress were improved in 1563 by the masters Simón de Bueras and Martín Ochoa de Arteaga. In 1842, the arch went under a deep renewal works and was turned into a house, as it remains nowadays. Close to the arch, you can still see some rests of the primitive wall.
- Arco de San Gil (Arch of St. Gil)
The original door was completely modified in the mid-16th century by the architect Juan de Vallejo, and again in the 18th century by Manuel de Baztigueta. Adapted to an angle of the wall, it is crowned by a big coat of arms of the city of Burgos. For centuries, it was one of the main entrances to the city, as well as the main contact point with the convents of the Trinity and of St. Francis.

- Arco de Fernán González (Arch of St. Fernán González)
The arch was built in the land where, supposedly, the Count Fernán González was born in the early-10th century. This count proclaimed the independence of Castile and died in 970. It is a triumph arch, Roman style, unique in its pure classicism.

- Torreón de Doña Lambra y Puerta de la Judería (Tower of Mrs. Lambra and Door of the Jewish Quarters)
This is the simple arch of the door of the Jewish quarters and the tower called of Doña Lambra, the character that caused the death of the Seven Infantrymen of Lara (a Spanish medieval legend), despite there is no historical evidence that links the character with the building. As popular legends say, doña Lambra threw herself from the top of this tower, regretful for what she did.

A good example of Renaissance architecture. Inside, the building looks to a patio of simple traces, and now functions as a high school.

- Casa del Cordón (House of the Cordon)
It is the best preserved civil building of the Medieval Burgos and it's named after the Franciscan cord sculpted in the main facade. It was built in the 15th century and it has witnessed a lot of historical events, for example in 1497, when the Catholic Monarchs met Columbus after his second trip to America. In 1506, Philip the Handsome, husband of Joanna of Castile, died inside, and from its balconies the nobility watched the celebrations down in the Big Market square, the nowadays plaza de la Libertad. Currently is an exhibition hall, owned by the bank Caja Burgos.

- Capitanía General (Captain General's Headquarters)
Building inspired in the Neo-Gothic style and ended with merlons. The main highlights in the facade are the stairs and the balconies. This building had a transcendental importance during the Spanish Civil War, as it was from here where Franco issued the last war report, communicating the end of the conflict.

- Puente de San Pablo y Estatua del Cid Campeador (Bridge of of St. Paul and Statue of el Cid)
The historical bridge of St. Paul is decorated with statues coming from the legend of el Cid, and in plaza del Mio Cid, you will find the most famous and popular statue of el Cid Campeador, and one of the best known images of the city.

- Museo de Farmacia (Pharmacy Museum)
In the second floor of the Arch of Santa María you will find a collection of pharmacy instruments from the 16th to the 19th centuries, brought from the old Pharmacy of the Hospital of St. John (Hospital de San Juan). The main highlight of the exhibition is the collection of jars made in Talavera de la Reina in 1558, with the coat of arms of St John the Evangelist in blue over a white background.

- Monte Hijedo (Mount Hijedo)
The vegetation extends like a lush green spot through the undulated terrain. Inside the forest, you will discover several exceptional and beautiful places.

- Lagunas de Neila (Lakes of Neila)
Breathtaking group of lakes of glacial origin. The most impressive glacial circus is the one made by the two biggest lakes, the Black Lake (Laguna Negra) and the Long Lake (Laguna Larga). The water draining from the lakes makes a water fall that freezes in winter, forming a spectacular view. Cars cannot go up until the lower part of the lakes, and the visitor is charged for using the last part of the road.

1. Frías:
The town: The town of Frías still preserves its medieval atmosphere, as well as the Church of St. Vitores and the remainings of the abandoned convents of St. Francis and St. Mary of the Vadillo.
How to get there: 82 km northeast from the city of Burgos. Take the toll motorway AP-1 and from it take the road N-1. After Fuentebureba, take the road BU-520 until Frias.
- Castillo de Frías o de los Duques de Frías (Castle of Frias or Castle of the Dukes of Frias)
Frías is easily distinguished by the shape of its castle, standing over an incredible rocky mountain. The fortress, from which you can catch the best views of the city and the Valley of Tobalina, was built in the 12th, 15th and even the 16th century. Apart from the keen, it preserves some windows decorated with Romanesque capitals. What is now left from the castle is only one part of the defensive system that included the upper part of the city, including the Parish Church of St. Vicent.
2. Mazuelo de Virtus:
The town: Virtus is inside the so called Las Merindades, the northern territories of the province of Burgos. Here, you will find the greenest and most beautiful natural views.
How to get there: 87 km north from the city of Burgos. Take the road N-623 until you pass Cilleruelo de Bezana, and then take the road BU-564 until Mazuelo de Virtus.
- Castillo de Virtus (Castle of Virtus)
The town of Virtus is located in the Valley of Valdebezana. The majestic silhouette of the castle, standing on the top of a little hill and surrounded by green grass, is the main element of the landscape. This fortress, built in the late 14th century or the early 15th century, belonged to the Porras' family. The northern cube and the second floor were destroyed during the Civil War and, after this, the castle was left almost in ruins.
3. Medina del Pomar:
The town: Preserves the beautiful and interesting old town. The main highlights are the Monastery of St. Clare and the Castle of the Velasco's. Now it is a popular summer destination.
How to get there: 101 km north from the city of Burgos. Take the toll motorway AP-1 until you reach the road BU-510 and continue to the city of Barrios de Bureba. From here, take the road N-232 until Pino de Bureba, and them the road N-629 until Medina del Pomar.
- Castillo de los Velasco y Museo de las Merindades (Castle of the Velasco's and Museum of the Merindades)
This fortress was built in the late 14th century under the order of Pedro Fernández de Velasco. Inside, you can see the rests of the Mudéjar plasterwork and, from November of 2002, visit the Museum of the Merindades, which displays an exhibition about the history of the area. In the upper floor, in the terrace looking to the north, you will find a viewpoint from which you can have a look over the city and the outskirts.

- Convento de Santa Clara (Convent of St. Clare)
It was founded in 1313 by Sancho Sánchez de Velasco. The church was built in the 15th century, and in the 16th century the funerary chapel of the Conception was added, following the familiar model initiated in the Chapel of the Condestables of the Cathedral of Burgos. The convent's museum exhibits, among another pieces, a remarkable lying Christ by Gregorio Fernández. Close to this compound, you also will find the Medieval Chapel of San Millan, recently renewed.

4. Moradillo de Sedano:
The town: This area resembles a charmed maze, made by rock, water and vegetation, pure nature and traditional life. Moradillo de Sedano is hidden in one of the turns of the deep valley excavated by the river Moradillo.
How to get there: 48 km north from the city of Burgos. Take the road N-623 towards Santander and continue until the city of Masa, where you can take the road BU-513 until Moradillo de Sedano.
- Iglesia de San Esteban (Church of St. Stephen)
With only one nave and consecrated in 1188, this church preserves a wonderful facade with evident influences of the second master of Silos. It has two sculptural groups with rich iconographic representations, among which the Pantocrator, surrounded by angels and prophets, is the main highlight.
5. Olmillos de Zumel:
The town: It is located in the land of the moors, the traditional image of Castile where the poor landscapes contrast with the rich monuments.
How to get there: 21 km northeast from the city of Burgos. Take the road BU-11, and then take the road N-623 towards Santander. After that, take the road BU-622 until Zumel.
- Castillo de Zumel (Castle of Zumel)
This outstanding castle from the 14th century consists on a masonry fence and a keen that stands up in one of its corners. The castle belonged to the influential Bernuy's family and, more than a defensive fortress, it was a palace built to show the social status and high economic position of the owners.
6. Puente-Arenas:
The town: Puente-Arenas is inside the so called Las Merindades, the northern territories of the province of Burgos. Here, you will find the greenest and most beautiful natural views.
How to get there: 74 km northeast from the city of Burgos. Take the road N-123 towards Santander, and after Quintanilla-Sobresierra take the road BU-503. After Masa, take the road CL-629 until Puente-Arenas.
- Ermita de San Pedro de Tejada (Chapel of St. Peter of Tejada)
This chapel was built in the purest Romanesque style during the mid-12th century, and its harmonic and solid structure corresponds with the typical characteristics of the Romanesque in Burgos. The relieves of the Ascension and the Last Supper stand out because of their simplicity and elegance.

7. Quintana de Valdivieso:

- Torre de Loja (Tower of Loja)
This compound consists of a tower and several rooms. The northern wall is decorated with heraldic motives and terminated with merlons and four little towers. It belonged to the family Saravia de Rueda, Counts of Loja, and it can be dated in the 16th century.
8. Santa Gadea del Cid:
The town: This fortified town preserves the original street layout and the essence of its medieval houses.
How to get there: a 78 km northeast from the city of Burgos. Take the toll motorway AP-1 until you reach the exit of the road N-1. When you pass Pacorbo, take the road CL-625 until Santa Gadea del Cid.
- Monasterio de Nuestra Señora del Espino (Monastery of Our Lady of the Howthorn)
Close to the town of Santa Gadea del Cid, in a quiet spot, stands this monastery honoring the Virgin. Its origin is impregnated with legend and devotion, as tradition says that the Virgin Mary appeared to the shepherds Pedro García and Juan de Encinas in 1399 to reveal her desire of having a sanctuary in this very place, as legend says many Christians were martyred there in the times of the Muslim invasions. Currently inhabited by Redemptorists, the monastery preserves a beautiful Gothic wooden carving of the Virgin of the Hawthorn.
- Castillo y murallas de Santa Gadea del Cid (Castle and Walls Santa Gadea del Cid)
The origin of this castle goes back to the 11th century and its importance comes from the fact that this town is located in the border between Castile and Álava. It was rebuilt in the 15th century by Don Pedro López Manrique. The keen and parts of the fence still remain.
9. Toba de Valdivieso:
The town: Toba de Valdivieso is inside the so called Las Merindades, the northern territories of the province of Burgos. Here, you will find the greenest and most beautiful natural views.
How to get there: 108 km north from the city of Burgos. Take the road BU-11 until the exit to the road BU-30 towards Valladolid. From here, take toll motorway AP-1 and then the road N-1 until you pass Cameno. Then, take the road N-232 until Toba de Valdivieso.
- Castillo de Toba (Castle of Toba)
The Castle of Toba, also called of Malvecino, stands in the inaccessible top of the Valley of Valdivielso, surrounded by forests. It overviews the narrow passage and the important communication road that goes along the right shore of the river Ebro. The castle is surrounded by rough cliffs, which makes the access impossible from every side except from the northern part. To get to this 14th century castle, you have to follow a narrow path that starts in the town Toba de Valdivielso. Although getting there is not easy, the panoramic view from here is worth it.

1. Aranda de Duero:
The town: Is the capital of Ribera del Duero. Its important cultural heritage goes along the gastronomical offer (based on the roasted sucking pig) and its excellent wines, Protected Designation of Origin Rivera del Duero.
How to get there: 87 km south of the city of Burgos. Take the motorway A-1 until Aranda de Duero.
- Iglesia de Santa María La Real Aranda (Church of St. Mary La Real Aranda)
The gorgeous facade of this 15th century church was attributed to Simon de Colonia. Inside, the main highlights are the chapel of the Salazar's family, the Mudéjar style golden stair and the Renaissance pulpit, by Juan de Cambray and Miguel de Espinosa.

- Museo sacro de la iglesia de San Juan (Sacre Museum of the Church of St. John)
The Church of St. John houses the main exhibition, called The paths of light (Los Caminos de la Luz). Its aim is to guide the visitor through the history and the art of Aranda, displaying some pieces of the church's furniture. The main highlights are the gorgeous 16th-century altarpiece Las Calderonas, the high altarpiece (from the 16th & 18th centuries) and the 18th-century altarpiece of St. James. Moreover, this museum exhibits other valuable artistic items and host temporary exhibitions.

- Santuario de San Pedro Regalado o del Domus Dei de la Aguilera (Sanctuary of St. Peter Regalado or of the Domus Dei of the Aguilera)
The church of the Sanctuary was built in 1438 and is dedicated to St. Peter Regalado, saint patron of Valladolid and of the bullfighters, who lived in the 14th century. In 1699 was destroyed by the fire and it was rebuilt if 1706. Inside, it houses several paintings and a beautiful collection of canvasses painted by Diego de Frutos. The other interesting spot is the Chapel of the Glory, located just in the same place where the original chapel was located.

Under the town of Aranda de Duero you will find a network of galleries that were and are used to elaborate and store the wine has been produced here from the Middle Ages. This center recreates the activities and processes related to the traditional way of elaborating wine in the Ribera del Duero. They also have a varied program of activities, such as wine tasting, courses, a specialized newspaper library and an information point.

- Museo Félix Cañada – Casa de las Bolas (Museum Felix Cañada – House of the Balls)
Displays the collection donated by the engineer Felix Cañada to the Town Hall of Aranda de Duero. The exhibition consists of pictorial works from the period between the 17th and the 20th century. The House of the Balls (La Casa de las Bolas) is an emblematic building of the town of Aranda de Duero.

2. Covarrubias:
The town: A jewel of the Castilian heritage, located in the riverside of the river Arlanza. The city presents a singular interest and it is one of the best examples of the popular architecture in Spain.
How to get there: 42 km south from the city of Burgos. Take the motorway A-1 towards Soria and then the road N-234. from it, take the road BU-901 until Covarruebias.
- Torreón de doña Urraca o de Fernán González (Tower of doña Urraca or of Fernán González)
The Tower of Fernán González, also called of Doña Urraca, is a Mozarabic building from the late 10th century. The entrance door is horseshoe arch and the upper part resembles to have a pyramidal shape. A popular legend makes this tower the scenario of the isolation and death of a Countess called Urraca, due to a secret love contrary to an arranged marriage planned by her father.
- Archivo del Adelantamiento de Castilla (Archive of the Governorate of Castile)
It was built in 1575 to become the Archive of the Governorate of Castile (Adelantamiento de Castilla) under the rule of Philip II of Spain, whose coat of arms presides over the main facade. The design and the project were made by Juan de Herrera, while Juan de Vallejo executed the project. It is the entrance to the old town of Covarrubias and the current Tourist Information Office.
3. Guzmán:
The town: This town is located in the southern end of the province of Burgos, la Ribera del Duero, the land of the river Duero, the land of noble and old wines. Natural border between the Christian kingdoms in the north and the Muslim territories in the south, this area is rich in history and cultural heritage.
How to get there: 93 km south from the city of Burgos. Take the motorway A-1 and from here take the road BU-110 towards Roa. Then, take the road CL-119 until Guzmán.
- Iglesia de San Juan Bautista (Church of St. John the Baptist)
The main highlights of the church are the Baroque tower, the elegant Baroque altarpiece dedicated to St. Domingo de Guzmán, the sacristy, and the chapels dedicated to St. Domingo de Guzmán and Our Lady of the Rosary. The construction works started around 1558.

- Palacio de los Guzmán y Santoyo (Palace of the Guzmán y Santoyo)
Dated around the mid-17th century, it belonged to the famous family of the Guzmán, until the primogenital male descendant branch extinguished and the palace was given to the house of Jalón.
4. La Vid:
The town: This town is located in the southern end of the province of Burgos, la Ribera del Duero, the land of the river Duero, the land of noble and old wines. Natural border between the Christian kingdoms in the north and the Muslim territories in the south, this area is rich in history and cultural heritage.
How to get there: a 106 km south from the city of Burgos. Take the road A-1, and then the road N-122 towards Soria.
- Monasterio de Santa María de la Vid (Monastery of St. Mary of the Grapevine)
This big monastery by the riverside of the Duero hosts the image of Our Lady of the Grapevine. The main highlights of this monastery are the east end of the church, the high altarpiece with the image of the Virgin, the choir stalls, the cloister, the chapter house and the splendid library, with two Korans. Besides, you can visit the Museum, displaying sculpture, painting, silver and gold works, medals and coins. Both visits are made at once.

5. Lerma:
The town: The street layout of this conventual and royal town presents one of the most important monumental and urban compounds of the 17th century. Besides, Lerma is famous because of its gastronomy: its specialty is the roasted suckling lamb and the wines from the Ribera del Arlanza.
How to get there: 41 km south from the city of Burgos. Take the road BU-11 until de motorway A-1. Then, take the exit towards Lerma and the road BU-115 until Lerma.
- Palacio de los duques de Lerma (Palace of the Dukes of Lerma)
Symbol of the political power of the Duke of Lerma, it was built between 1601 and 1617 by Francisco de Mora over the ruins of an old castle. Its sober and elegant lines draw four towers ended in capitals. Currently, it works as a Parador de Turismo. In front of the Palace stands the big Plaza Ducal, originally surrounded by arcades.
- Colegiata de San Pedro (Colegiate Church of St. Peter)
Connected to the Palace through a passage, both of them together conforms the unmistakable shape of the city. It was built between 1613 and 1617 by Fray Alberto de la Madre de Dios. Its major altarpiece and the choir stalls are Baroque style and the main highlight inside is the praying statue in golden bronze of the Archbishop Cristóbal de Rojas y Sandoval. The organ from 1616 is one of the oldest in Spain.

6. Miranda de Duero:
The town: The prosperous city of Miranda de Ebro was and still is a key point of communication. The medieval part of the city consists of two neighborhoods, Aquende y Allende, communicated by the bridge of Charles III of Spain, over the river Ebro.
How to get there: 158 km southeast from the city of Burgos. Take the motorway A-1, and then take the road N-234. Close to Revillarruz, just take the road CL-111 until Miranda de Duero.
- Iglesia de San Nicolás o del Espíritu Santo (Church of the Holy Ghost)
This single nave church was destroyed by the fire in 1936, also taking away the valuable Parish archive, the choir, the cover, and a good number of images. In 1972 it was rebuilt and consecrated to the Holy Ghost.
- Iglesia de Santa María de Altamira (Church of St. Mary of Altamira)
St. Mary of Altamira, the saint patron of the city, is venerated in this church from the 15th century. The Baroque high altarpiece was brought from the neighboring town of Obarenes.
7. Peñaranda de Duero:
The town: This is one of the most beautiful and picturesque town in the Province of Burgos, with a gorgeous Plaza Mayor surrounded by monuments.
How to get there: 99 km southeast from the city of Burgos. Take the motorway A-1 until you can access the road N-IA. After that, take the road CL-111 until Peñaranda de Duero.
- Excolegiata de Santa Ana (Ex-Colegiate Church of St. Anne)
Breathtaking temple from the 16th century. The Baroque facade presents several Roman busts from Clunia. Inside, the main highlight is the Neoclassical altarpiece that presides over the high altar.

- Castillo de Peñaranda de Duero (Castle of Peñaranda de Duero)
Its plan is perfectly adapted to the solid and rough rock where it stands. The keen, with its ground floor and its three floors above, is the main element outside. Inside, you will find the Center of Interpretation of the Castle. The entrance door is in the eastern side, separated from the other side by a moat excavated directly in the rock.

- Palacio de los Condes de Miranda (Palace of the Counts of Miranda)
The facade presents the coat of arms of the Zúñiga, held by varlets. Inside, the beautifully decorated rooms glimmer around the elegant patio. Most of the room, as well as the wide stairs, are covered with Gothic, Mudéjar and Renaissance coffered ceiling.

8. Poza de la Sal:
The town: Poza de la Sal is located in the lower part of a mountain massif, on the top of which stands the Castle of Rojas. It preserves its celebrated salt factory, the charming old streets, and the essence of the past.
How to get there: 58 km southeast from the city of Burgos. Take the road N-623 until Quintanilla-Sobresierra, where you can take the road BU-503. After Masa, take the road BU-502 until Poza de la Sal.
- Iglesia de San Cosme y San Damián (Church of St. Cosmas & St. Damian)
This Gothic church, with three naves and transept, preserves a good part of the Baroque facade. Inside, the main highlights are the 16th century altarpieces of the Virgin of the Rosary and of St. Andrew, this last one attributed to Simon de Bueras. The sacristy also preserves a beautiful compound of drawers from the 17th century and a small museum showing valuable items.

- Castillo de Poza de la Sal o de los Rojas (Castle of Poza de la Sal or of the Roja's)
The Castle of Poza de la Sal is one of the most impressive and inexpugnable fortresses in the province of Burgos. Half-excavated in the upper part of the rock, the outside walls and some domes remain. In 1528 was used as a prison for the ambassadors of the League of Cognac, under the order the emperor Charles I of Spain, and in 1813, the warrior Longa obtained here a brave victory over the French troops.
9. Santo Domingo de Silos:
The town: In this town, the marks of History are still visible, for example in the adobe houses with the popular wooden flying structures and the old nobility mansions.
How to get there: 73 km south from the city of Burgos. Take the road N-234 until Hortigüela, where you can take the road BU-903 until Santo Domingo de Silos.
- Monasterio de Santo Domingo de Silos (Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos)
Originally, it was a Visigoth construction. The cloister of this monastery is one of the wonders of the Spanish Romanesque. The lower floor was built between the late 11th century and the early 12th century. The gorgeous capitals crowning the double columns depict oriental and caliphal themes, and are pieces of great artistic perfection. In the corners, eight superb relieves represent scenes of the life of Christ, whereas the 14th century Mudéjar coffered ceiling shows scenes of daily life in the Middle Ages. The current church is Neoclassical, from the 18th century, and the museum exhibits interesting pieces.
