By Air:

* International Airport of Madrid- Barajas:
Located 12 Km northeast of the city. The airport has four terminals, T1, T2, T3 y T4. To move from one terminal to another one, you can take the shuttle bus that connects the terminals.

En Tren:
Madrid has two main train stations:

1. Estación de Chamartín (Chamartín Station)
Trains coming from or going to France or the north of Spain depart from the Estación de Chamartín.

2. La Estación de Atocha (Atocha Station)
It is the largest railway complex of Spain and one of the most emblematic points of the city. Inside, you will find a tropical garden inhabited by more than 500 species, like carnivorous and aquatic plants, color fishes and amphibians.

Several kinds of trains depart and arrive to these two stations: 

1. International Destinations:
Trains going abroad depart from the Chamartín Station.

    Offers the service between Madrid – Lisbon (Santa Apolonia): almost 9 hours.

* High-speed train AVE:

  • MadridCiudad Real  – CordobaSeville: Departs from  Atocha – 50 min to Ciudad Real / 1¾ hours to Cordoba / 2½ hours to Seville.
  • Madrid – Segovia (Guiomar) – Valladolid (Campo Grande): Departs from Chamartín – 30 min to Segovia / 1 hour to Valladolid.

* Tren Altaria:

  • Line R-1: Madrid ­– Ávila: Departs from Atocha and passes by Chamartín – almost 2 hours.
  • Line R-6: Madrid -ValenciaCuenca: Departs from Atocha – 6 hours.
  • Line R- 20: MadridSalamanca: Departs from Chamartín – 2½ hours.
  • Line R-21: Madrid -Valladolid – León: Departs from Chamartín – 4¾ hours.

The two main bus stations in Madrid are the Estación Sur (buses going to the south) and the Estación de Avenida de América (buses going to the north):

* Radial Highways:

  • A-1 (Autovía del Norte): MadridBurgos Basque Country. This highway connects the capital of Spain with the French border in Irún.
  • A-2 (Autovía del Nordeste): MadridGuadalajaraSoria ZaragozaLéridaBarcelona.
  • A-3 (Autovía de Valencia / Autovía del Este): MadridValencia.
  • A-4 (Autovía de Andalucía / Autovía del Sur): Madrid CórdobaSevillaCádiz.
  • A-5 (Autovía del Suroeste / Autovía de Extremadura): Madrid ToledoCáceresBadajoz This highway connects the capital of Spain with the Portuguese border in Badajoz.

* National Roads:

National Roads run almost parallel to the highways of the same number, if they go towards the same direction. The highway is preferable over the road because the have more lanes, are in a better shape and do not cross cities along its way.

  • N-1 (Carretera de Burgos)
  • N-2 (Carretera de Barcelona)
  • N-3 (Carretera de Valencia)
  • N-4 (Carretera de Andalucía)
  • N-5 (Carretera de Extremadura)
  • N-6 (Carretera de La Coruña)

* Ring Roads:

  • Calle 30: Although it was a highway before, now it has the status of a street. It goes around the city of Madrid, and it is the closest to the city center. Also has access to all the radial highways and roads.
  • M-40: This highway makes a complete turn around the city of Madrid and reaches some of the most important cities in the outskirts. Also has access to all the radial highways and roads.
  • M-50: It is not a complete circle (the road between the A-6 and the A-1 has not been built yet), and it is the furthest ring road from the city center. Also has access to all the radial highways and roads.
