* Roads: 

• Highway A-52 is the best way to get into the highway A-6 from Pontevedra. The A-6 starts in Madrid and it is the fastest way to go south and/or east.
• Toll motorway AP-9 communicates Pontevedra with Santiago de Compostela to the north and with Vigo to the south. There is also a free road that makes the same way, the N-550.
• Road PO-308 goes to Xanxenxo and the western cities.
• Road PO-506 goes south and around the Ría de Pontevedra towards the south.

*MONUMENTS: 

• Praza da Leña (Square of Wood)
  One of the most charming places in Pontevedra. It has columns on one side and a cruceiro (high cross) from the 15^th century in the middle. Around it, you will find the main buildings of the Museum of Pontevedra, as well as a lot of bars and restaurants to have something to eat or drink.

• Puente romano de A Ramallosa (Roman Bridge of A Ramallosa)
  A Medieval style bridge that crosses the river Miño. In the middle of it stands a cruceiro (high cross) with an image of San Telmo, saint patron of seamen.
  Address: in the town of A Ramallosa, 55 km. far from Pontevedra.

• Pazo de Borraxeiros (Country house of Borraxeiros)
  Gorgeous building from the 17^th century, with a castellated facade, a neoclassical door and a baroque chimney. The building is perfectly preserved but cannot be visited, as it's a private property.
  Address: in the town of Agolada, 120 km. far from Pontevedra.

• Cruceiros (High Crosses)
  One of the most original and popular architectural elements of Galicia. They are crosses made of stone and appear in the courtyard of churches, cemeteries entries and cross-roads. In the city of Pontevedra you will find a lot of them, like the one in Plaza de la Leña, the one in the Ruins of Santo Domingos, the one in plaza das Cinco Rúas, the one in plaza de Alfonso de Fonseca or the one in rúa do Barón.

*RELIGIOUS TEMPLES: 

• Basílica de Santa Maria la Mayor (Basilica of St. Mary the Great)
  A mainly Gothic church with a whiff of Plateresque and Portuguese Manueline influences. It was built in the 16^th century by the Guild of Fishermen.

• Iglesia de San Francisco (Church of St. Francis)
  This church belonged to a convent and contains all the characteristics of the Gothic style of the mendicant orders' buildings. Saint Francis of Assisi himself is thought to have founded the church when he was peregrinating to the Apostle Santiago's tomb in 1214. However, there are no solid evidences of that. Inside the major chapel, you can find some medieval sepulchers belonging to the local nobility.

• Santuario de la Virgen Peregrina (Sanctuary of the Pilgrim Virgin)
  It contains the elements of the Galician Baroque style and the Neo-classical architecture of the 18^th century. The plan is that of a scallop shell and inside it keeps the statue of the Pilgrim Virgin, the saint patron of the city and of all pilgrims. This church is one stop in the Portuguese way towards Santiago.

• Ruinas de San Domingos (Ruins of San Domingos)
  It was a Gothic style Dominique convent in the 13^th century, but now is one of the buildings belonging to the Museum of Pontevedra. Inside, the collection of objects displayed presents a great historical and artistic interest.

• Museo Provincial de Pontevedra (Provincial Museum of Pontevedra)
  Displays a superb collection of Galician art, as well as temporary exhibitions. The museum is composed by:
  -   Ruinas de San Domingos (Ruins of San Domingos)
  
  -   Edificio Castro Monteagudo (Building Castro Monteagudo)
  Houses the collections of archeology, pre-Roman gold and silver works, and Spanish, Italian and Flemish paintings from the 15^th to the 18^th century.
  
  -     Edificio García Flórez (Building García Flórez)
  Jet objects, engravings, religious sculptures, china from Sargadelos, the office furniture of the Admiral Méndez Núñez, a reproduction of one of the chambers of the frigate 'Numancia', as well as a traditional Galician kitchen.
  
  -   Edificio Fernández López (Building Fernández López)
  Located around the same square as the other buildings, it houses the painting rooms, displaying a collection of Spanish art from the 19^th and 20^th centuries.
  
  -   Edificio Sarmiento (Building Sarmiento)
  In the Calle Sarmiento, next to the Church of San Bartolomeu. Here you will find a permanent exhibition of contemporary Galician paintings, as well as the temporary exhibitions.
  
  -    Sexto edificio (Sixth Building)
  Still under construction, in the garden of the Company of de Jesus, and just behind the 'Parish Church of San Bartolomeu' and the 'Sarmiento Building'.
