Cathedral de San Pedro (Saint Peter's Cathedral)
The Cathedral was built in the 16^th century over the ruins of an old 12^th century Romanesque church and has an open plan with three naves of equal height, covered with star-shaped skylights. It has a Plateresque facade and preserves the original Romanesque cloister, one of the most beautiful Romanesque sights in Spain.

Monasterio de San Juan de Duero (Monastery of St. John of the Duero)
About 10 minutes' walk from the centre and across the river Duero stand the ruined cloisters of this monastery. They are considered one of the most unusual medieval monuments in the region. Built in the 13^th century, each of the four sides of the cloister belongs to a different style: Romanesque, Transitional Gothic, Gothic and the original section interlaced arching with Moorish details. The church has been converted into a Romanesque art and architecture museum.

Iglesia de Santo Domingo (Church of St. Domingo)
Further north is the city's most beautiful Romanesque church. Its small exquisitely sculptured portal is extraordinary, particularly at sunset when its reddish stone seems to be glowing. In the church you'll find sculpted scenes from the life of Christ. Today it's a convent of Poor Clare nuns.

Iglesia de San Juan de Rabanera (Church of St. John of the Rabanera)
A fine Romanesque church which was built in the 12^th century and has unusual decorations of both the Byzantine and Gothic styles. The Baroque altarpiece is worth seeing.

Ermita de San Saturio (Chapel of St. Saturio)
It is a unique 18^th century chapel built into the steep rocky hillside. It includes an octagonal chapel with 13^th century frescoes.

Museo Numantino (Museum of Numancia)
Founded in 1919, the current museum is the union of the former Provincial Museum and Soria's Museo Numantino. The exhibit starts with bones of mammoths found south of Soria. It continues with ceramics, tools, jewelry and other objects accompanied by detailed explanations of the historical developments in various major Celtiberian and Roman settlements.

Palacio de los Condes Gomara (Palace of the Counts of Gomara)
It was built in the late 16^th century and nowadays is Soria's most impressive example of secular architecture. It is now a courthouse.

*NATURAL PLACES:

Laguna Negra (Black Lake)
This glacial lake is located 2.000 meters above the sea level, surrounded by granite walls and countless pine trees. The lake, which resembles a black mirror, is dark, fascinating and mysterious and is included in many legends of the region. Cars are allowed to go up till the Black Lake, except on the summer moths and public holidays, when visitors have to go up on foot or by bus. The first Sunday of August, a good number of swimmers take part in a swimming event, which has been on for more than 40 years.

La Fuentona
A natural monument near the mediaeval town of Calatañazor. The spring that gives the source of the river Abión its name flows from the tunnels of a cave with a length of more than 500 m and a depth of 100 m. Views of the peculiar canyon and its fauna (Griffon vulture, Egyptian vulture, Golden eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Kingfisher and Trout).

Parque natural Cañón del Río Lobos (Natural Park of the Canyon of the River Lobos)
The sharp walls of the canyon houses the nets of the Griffon Vultures, which you will find flying over your head. The Chapel of St. Bartholomew, a Romanesque construction from the 13^th century, stands at the entrance of the canyon. This chapel was part of a convent belonging to the Order of the Temple, whose temples in Spain draws a Cross of Malta (the symbol of the order) when linked in a map.

It is the largest and most homogenous Holly forest in the Iberian Peninsula, which takes the visitor to a universe of Christmas fragrances. Reserva Paleontológica Nacional Cerro Pelado (National Paleontological reserve of Cerro Pelado)
In the municipality of Layna. The first micromammals fossils in the Tertiary (about 4 million years ago) found in Europe come from this inhospitable place.

Ermita de San Baudelio (Chapel of St. Baudelio)
The essence of the Romanesque in Soria has been preserved in San Baudelio, a chapel of the 11^th and 12^th century that conserves the basic elements of this artistic movement in Castile. The exotic frescoes depicting animals and the central column ending with the shape of the palm tree give to this architectonic style some touches of authenticity. It's one of the most emblematic buildings in the province.

El Castillo (The Castle)
it is one of the most spectacular fortress of the province, because of the length of the wall and the solid keep. This 15^th century construction is open to visitors and is perfectly preserved.

La villa medieval (The Medieval Vila)
Its narrow and paved streets, the wooden, stone or adobe houses, or the castle in ruins takes the visitor in a time travel.
Ruinas del castillo y murallas (Castle's and Wall's Ruins)
In the lower part of the fortress, down in the Blood Valley (Valle de la Sangre) the echoes of the 11^th century battle between the Christian troops and the Muslim ones, leaded by Almanzor, can still be heard. Although the victory was for the Christians, the legend of this medieval castle was deeply engraved in both sides history.
Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Castillo (Church of Our Lady of the Castle)
The 18^th century Mannerist altarpiece dominates the apse, which ends in a Gothic dome. Although it was built over a 12^th century temple, the church's main body is from the 14^th century. The church hosts a small museum, the Parish Museum, with a collection of paintings, gold and silver works, sculpture and scrolls from the time when the city was in charge of 16 more cities.

Castillo de Gormaz (Castle of Gormaz)
Sponsored by legendary figures, such as El Cid or Almanzor, this 10^th century fortress stands as one of the top military buildings of the Caliphate era. The enclosed area, where the castle stands, presents record numbers in Europe. Its strategic location gives it an extra value, as from here the visitor can get a glimpse of the endless horizon.

Ruinas de Numancia (Ruins of Numancia)
Numancia, an enclave that was inhabited between the 3^rd century BC and the 5^th AC, fought the Roman conquest so fiercely that this episode in Spanish history remains in the language (a 'numantine resistance' is used to refer to particularly obdurate resistance). The echoes of these battles still reverberate among the ruins of such a legendary settlement, which have been set up as a route that takes the visitor to the different key points of the place (guided visits also available). You can also visit the Archeological Room, in Garray, where you can see the war techniques of the Roman and the Celti-Iberian compared in a symmetrical way.

Address: 76 km north of the city of Soria. From the road N-111, take the hiagway A-15 or continue in the road until Almazán, where you can take SO-132, which goes to Medinaceli.

Plaza Mayor (Main Square)
The core of Medinaceli is a melting pot of styles, due to the different buildings surrounding it. The wide square's portico and paved streets exude antiquity through and through.
Puerta Árabe y Muralla (Arabic Door and Wall)
Arabs, specially, and after that, Christians, added constructive elements to the wall perimeter that protected the city. In the Eastern flank, the Arabic door and its pointed arch, give us a clue of how big the wall was in its time.
Castillo (Castle)
Seriously deteriorated and nowadays away from the city, this fortress was the residence of the Duchesses of Medinaceli before they moved to the Ducal Palace.
Palacio Ducal (Ducal Palace)
The rooms of the building have lost the glow of its early years, around the 15^th century. However, the Renaissance structure is still strong. Currently, it hosts the Medinaceli Dearte, a museum with a dozen rooms showing contemporary art.
Colegiata (Collegiate Church)
Impressive construction from the 16^th century that stands over the basis of an old Romanesque church. The belfry is easily visible, while the choir stalls are the main highlight inside. Nowadays, the collegiate church hosts the Museum of Sacred Art, which exhibits religious paintings.

Convento de Santa Isabel (Convent of St. Elisabeth)
Built by María de Silva, duchess of Medinaceli, in the 16^th century, the building is now inhabited by Clarisse nuns. In the facade you can see the coat of arms of the Cerda's family.
Ermita del Beato Julián (Chapel of the Blessed Julian)
Built in the 19^th century with the contribution of the Town Hall and the neighbors, this is a very simple building that contains in a coffer the rests of the Blessed.
Beaterio de San Román (Convent of St. Romanus)
In ruins. It's believed that it was originally a synagogue.
Ermita del Humilladero (Chapel of the Humilladero)
This curious Gothic temple stands in the crossroads among Soria, Ambrona and Miño de Medinaceli.
Aula Arqueológica y Taller de Cultura (Archeological Room and Cultural Workshop)
This space goes through the cultural legacy of the civilization that lived in the area. The Roman, Arab and Christian influence can be seen through the mosaics, houses' reproductions, tools, etc. The exhibition rooms also host temporary art exhibitons.

Palacios de los Castejones (Palace of the Castejones)
This civil construction of the 17^th century has a sober, almost Herrerian, entrance with pilasters, pinnacles and inverted pyramids. Its beautiful choir stalls and the interesting design of the garden make it worth visiting.
Iglesia de San Miguel (Church of St. Michael)
One nave Gothic temple of the14^th century. Its tower is Romanesque style.

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Peña (Church of Our Lady of the Rock)
This Romanesque church of the 12^th century is the oldest in town, and it is believed to had been originally a synagogue, before the Christian conversion. The highlights are the 15^th century paintings decorating the interiors, and the painting collection in the museum. Here you can see an exhibition of religious altarpieces, sculpture and paintings made in the between the 13^th and 18^th centuries.

Murallas Árabes (Arabic Walls)
The only remains from the Arabic walls that surrounded the town are some intact but small parts, and two caliphal doors, with their pointed arches.
Convento de la Concepción (Convent of the Conception)
The nun María Jesús de Ágreda built this construction, where her rests are preserved. The church dated back to the 17^th century and contains some altarpieces from the same period.
Yacimiento Romano de Ausgutóbriga (Roman Archeological site of Ausgutóbriga)
The neighbor city of Muro, called in Roman times Augustobriga, preserves its Roman wall and road.

Address: 44 km from Soria. Take the road N-234 until Abejar, then the road CL-117 until Molinos de Duero, and from there road SO-820 until Vinuesa.
Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Pino (Church of Our Lady of the Pine)
The front of this 16^th century temple, Gothic-Renaissance style, presents a half circle arch protecting the image of St. Anne. The ceilings are covered with Baroque and Rococo altarpieces.
Ermita de la Soledad (Chapel of the Solitude)
In front of its facade, the polish pine trunk is elevated, as part of the city's celebrations in August. It is a Baroque church from the 16^th century that preserves an altarpiece from this architectonic period.
Puente Romano (Roman Bridge)
This bridge sees daylight when the level water of the reservoir of the Cuerda del Pozo descends. Time and water had eroded the construction, which was part of the road linking this city with Uxama. Currently, there is a project to move the bridge to a safe place.
Palacio de los Marqueses de Vilueña (Palace of the Duchesses of Vilueña)
Four balconies and the coat of arms of the family adorn the facade of this 16^th century building.
Palacio de Don Pedro de Neyla (Palace of Don Pedro de Neyla)
This construction of the 17^th century was built by order of Don Pedro de Neyla, Archbishop of Palermo. Its design is an archetypical example of the typical residences of the area.
Casonas de Indianos
These beautiful and well preserved mansions were built with the fortunes of the emigrants that went to America, and can be seen around the whole province of Soria.
Museo del Bosque (Museum of the Forest)
It opened last year as an space to promote the manufacturing of wood, one of the main industries in the province. At the same time, it gives some tips about the peculiarities of the mountain ecosystem of the Mountain Chain of Urbión.

Castillo de Almenar (Castle of Almenar)
This is possibly the best preserved fortress of the province of Soria. Currently inhabited, its excellent condition allows the visitor to appreciate the square floor plan of the two bodies of the fortress. The castle is surrounded by a moat, has a bridge at the entrance door and a well inside. Nowadays it's especially popular, as it was the place of birth Leonor Izquierdo, wife of the poet Antonio Machado.

La Catedral de Burgo de Osma (The Cathedral of Burgo de Osma)
Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles converge in this stunning monument and shows the construction process of this building and its precious tower. Every single room in the interior is sumptuously decorated. The cathedral, main site of the Bishop of Osma-Soria, houses the Diocesan Museum of the Cathedral, where the treasures accumulated with time by the Diocese are shown. The collection contains painting, sculpture, gold, silver, and architecture works, as for example, paintings by Maella or wood carving by Juan de Juni and Berruguete.

Nowadays a cultural center, this 17^th century building presents a classical design with a patio, and ashlars facade with two towers a the sides. The building is located in the plaza Mayor.
Universidad de Santa Catalina (University of St. Catherine)
The anthropomorphic relieves are the main highlight of this 15^th century construction. A fortified patio occupies the center of the institution, which still carries on with its educative purposes, hosting university summer courses.
Murallas (The Walls)
The side of the river Ucero is the only one that preserves an intact piece of the old wall. In this segment, you will find the only door that remains standing.

Iglesia de San Millán (Church of St. Emilianus)
The balance in the decoration is the prevailing element in the interior of this Neoclassical temple, built under the order of the Archbishop Juan Francisco Jiménez del Río in the last years of the 18^th century. Besides its religious function, it also hosts the Museum of Tapestries, with pieces elaborated in the Royal Tapestry Factory in Brussels, and donated by the Archbishop.

Museo Pastoril (Pastoral Museum)
The museum is located in the so-called House of the Schoolteacher (Casa de la Maestra) and in recovers instruments, tools and traditions of the old migrating shepherds. The content of the informative panels turns us into a young shepherd's helper, who is making an 8 months trip from the mountains of Soria until the meadows of Andalusia and Extremadura.

La Quiñonería
Address: 50 km from Soria. Take road N-234 until the entrance of the town.
Peñalcazar
This abandoned little town contains ruins from Roman, Celti-Iberian, and Medieval times, and even the rests of the inhabitants that left their houses back in the 60's. The morbidly charm of Peñalcazar lays on its decadence, as you can see what History left written and abandoned on its pages, through Arab leaders, Christian nobility, and mere farmers a few decades ago. A small path ascends the side of the mountain and dies in one of the doors that gave entrance to the medieval city. There are no indicators or signals of how to get till the fortress.

Yacimiento Arqueológico de Ambrona-Torralba (Arqueological Site of Ambrona-Torralba)
The archeological site of Ambrona and Torralba is an open window to the Lower Paleolithic. The exhibition contains bones of big mammals, as a whole skeleton of an Elephas Antiquus, the ancestor of the current elephant. Also, the stone tools fabricated by man explain the life style of the inhabitants of the site, mostly nomads and hunters.

Colegiata (Colegiate Church)
Along with the castle, this is the other highlight of the city. The church, surprisingly big to be located in such a small city, preserves its Gothic interiors. It's consecrated to the Virgin of the Market and was built under the order of Fray Tomás de Berlanga, a Dominique monk that was a counselor of the king and the discoverer of the Galapagos Islands.
Convento de Paredes Albas (Convent of Paredes Albas)
Located 2 km far from Berlanga de Duero, this now abandoned building was a monastery of Franciscan monks. The surrounding area is full of rests of what were the garden and the factory.
Hospital y Palacio Señorial (Hospital and Palace)
A wonderful Plateresque facade delimitated by two towers is what remains from the old hospital of the city and, before that, the Palace of the Condestables. Inn of kings and nobility, the palace succumbed under the fire provoked by the French troops during the Independence way.
EspacioBerlanga – Torre del Palacio de los Duques de Frías (Tower of the Palace of the Duchesses of Frías)
Multi-functional building that nowadays hosts the Tourist Office, an exhibition hall and a viewpoint. In the lower floors, you can see an exhibition of images showing the cultural manifestations of the town.
Centro Escalote (Escalote Center)
The main point of this center is to describe the most singular monuments in town from the artistic point of view. The attention is also focused in the figure of Fray Tomás de Berlanga, born in this town and the discoverer of the Galapagos Islands.
