* MONUMENTS:

• Monumento Roger de Lauria (Monument of Roger de Lauria)
  Located at the end of the Rambla, facing the 'Balcony of the Mediterranean.' This bronze monument was created in 1886 by the Catalonian sculptor Feliu Ferrer Galzeran. It displays Roger de Lauria, the popular Catalonian navigator of Calabrian origin, famous for his adventures during the time of Peter II the Great.
  
  
• Torre dels Escipions (Tower of the Scipiones)
  One of the most emblematic monuments in town. This funerary monument was built in the 1^st century and is a shaped tower that consists of three overlapping parts.

• Pont del Diable (Devil's Bridge)
  Located 4 km north from the city, this Roman aqueduct was built in the 1^st century by the Romans. It's in such a very good condition that was in use till the 18^th century. It's 217 meters long, 27 meters high, and has two levels with overlapping arcs.
  
  
• Casa Sefus (Sefus House)
  This Renaissance style house from the 16^th century consists of two floors and stands out thanks to its facade of stone.

  This noble palace includes architectural traces from different eras: Roman, Medieval, Renaissance, and Neoclassical. Nowadays, it houses the School of Music and Conservatory.

  The façade stones of this 15^th century Renaissance house are carved and decorated with the old shield of the Generalitat (the Autonomous Government of Catalonia).

• Palacio Arzobispal (Archbishop Palace)
  This neoclassical style construction was built over the ruins of an oldest building in 1815. Its construction has been attributed to the brothers Vallès, and also to the architect Oriol Bernardet.
  
  
• Torre d'en Tintorer (Tower of Tintorer)
  It belongs to the medieval period and was built adjoining the Roman wall. It still retains part of the battlements of terrace.

* RELIGIOUS TEMPLES:

• Catedral de Tarragona (Tarragona Cathedral)
  Built between 1171 and 1331 on the site of a Visigoth cathedral and an Arab mosque, this temple is a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. The restoration and conservation works were carried out between 1999 and 2001 by the architects Joan Gavalda and Joan Figuerola. Also in this period the archaeological excavations were carried out and the chapels were restored.

• Parroquia de La Santissima Trinitat‎ (Parish of The Trinity)
  it was built in the 13^th century over the ruins of an ancient convent that was occupied by the Augustinian Order.

• Iglesia de Natzaret (Church of Nazareth)
  Although the church goes back to the 13^th century, it was completely finished in the 16^th century.

• Iglesia de San Lorenzo (Church of St. Lawrence)
  Now it's the headquarters of the Farmers Guild of St. Lorenzo and St. Isidro. Inside, the furniture and two Easter statues by the architect Josep Maria Jujol.
  
  
• Iglesia de la Enseñanza (Church of the Teachings)
  Neoclassical style, with a portal on the stairway of the 19th century, It is a part of the former convent of Lestonnach.
  
  
• Iglesia de San Agustín (Church of St. Agustine)
  This church belonged to the former convent of the Jesuits, which was given to the Augustinians after the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1780. It's a mix between the Renaissance and the classic Baroque.
  
  
• Capilla de Sant Magí (Chapel of St. Magí)
  Honors the co-patron of the city. It was built next to the gate in the ancient wall, from where he fled in times of persecution, as tradition says.
  
  
• Convento de las Carmelitas descalzas (Convent of the Discalced Carmelites)
  Built in 1712,this Rococo religious building is really interesting. It has a single nave, and keeps the heart and the narthex.

• Museu Diocesá (Diocesan Museum)
  Located in the cloister of the Cathedral of Tarragona. its extensive collection consists of 6,000 pieces, of which only 350 are displayed. Among them, there are Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque paintings, as well as tapestries of the 15^th and 18^th centuries, jewelry, books, manuscripts and liturgical furniture.

  The most interesting feature of this museum is not only the collection inside, but the importance of the monuments UNDER its supervision. In fact, the museum manages the main monuments in the city.

  * The Museum of History is responsible for the care and preservation of several of the city's Roman monuments, as well as of two buildings from the modern period:
  
  a) Museu Casa Castellarnau (House-Museum Castellarnau)
  it's one of Tarragona's finest medieval mansions and lesser known museums. It dated from the 15^th century and the interior courtyard has arches and stone coats of arms built over Roman vaults. Another highlight are the small collections of 18^th century Catalonian furniture, of archeological and historical interest.

  b) Pretori i Circ Romans (Roman Praetorian & Circus)
  It includes part of the vaults of the Roman circus, where chariot races were held. The circus, 300 m long, stretched from here to beyond Plaça de la Font.

  c) Amfiteatre Romá (Roman Amphitheatre)
  Where gladiators battled each other or against wild animals, to death. The arena keeps the remains of 6^th and 12^th century churches, respectively, built to commemorate the martyrdom of the Christian bishop Fructuosus.

  d) Forum Romá (Roman Forum)
  This forum was the hub of public life of the Roman town, but was still less important and much smaller than the provincial forum, the navel of all the Tarraconensis province. Dominated by several imposing columns, the northwestern side was occupied by a basilica, from which the rest of the forum stretched down the hill to the southwest.

  e) Passeig Arqueologic (Archaeological Promenade)
  It's a peaceful walk around the perimeter of the old town, in the space between the two lines of the city walls. The inner one is mainly Roman, while the outer one was put up by the British during the War of the Spanish Succession. Various objects are displayed along the walk, such as several Roman columns, a fine bronze statue of Augustus and the 18^th century cannons that seem to be still defending the city's heights. On the entrance, a small doorway leads to the battlement, where you can enjoy the finest views of the old city.

• Museu Nacional Arqueológic de Tarragona (Tarragona's National Archaeological Museum)
  A marvelous reflection of the richness of imperial Tarraco. The exhibition includes part of the Roman city walls, as well as various remains and buildings around the city, accompanied by pictures, relics, inscriptions, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, frescoes and pottery. A highlight is the large and almost complete Mosaic de Peixos de la Pineda, showing fish and sea creatures. In the section on everyday arts you can admire ancient fertility aids including an outsized stone penis, symbol of the god Priapus (1^st and 3^rd centuries0.

• Museu i Necropolis Paleocristians (Museum & Early-Christian Necropolis)
  This large Christian cemetery of late-Roman and Visigoth times is on Passeig de la Independencia and boasts some surprisingly elaborate tombs. This museum contains a few sarcophagi and some of the most fascinating finds.

* NATURAL PLACES:

• Camp de Mart (Fields of Mars)
  It is a green area and one of the most important cultural places in the city. Situated at the base of the Archaeological Promenade, it has an auditorium that presents different events, festivals and shows during the year.

• El Médol
  A Roman quarry with incredible stone walls and lots of vegetation.
  Address: Vía Augusta, about 9 km north of Tarragona

• Balcó del Mediterrani (Balcony of the Mediterranean)
  One of the most interesting points in the city. It is a ravine of 23 meters high at the end of the Rambla Nova Street. It is surrounded by an old wrought iron railing by Joan Miquel Guinart in the early 20^th century. This great viewpoint offers a wide and beautiful sight over the Mediterranean Sea.
