Typical events and festivals in Pecatu

These events are not typically for Pecatu specifically, but they happen in Bali in general.

• Bali Spirit Festival: This is one of the biggest Yoga Festivals in Asia. It takes place during the last week of March and the first week of April and lasts for seven days and eight nights. It consists of over three hundred yoga workshops, martial arts, personal development and music performances that run throughout the day and the night. The performing artists are international conscious.
• Ubud Writers & Readers Festival: Held in October, the festival brings writers and readers together. It involves book launches, spoken word events, writer workshops and several performing arts.
• Nyepi Day (The Day of Silence): New Year celebrations in Bali consist of two parts: Nyepi Eve, which is a noisy celebration like most parts of the world and Nyepi Day, which is a silent celebration. The Balinese believe that the spectacle created on Nyepi Eve pulls the spirits out of hiding. When they arrive the next morning, as everybody is in hiding and practising silence, the spirits leave till the following year, as there is nothing of interest for them amid the silence.
• Bali Kite Festival: Every year in June or July, a gathering of kite enthusiasts from surrounding areas gather to compete in different events that check on their flight skills prowess and kite designs. The skies are filled with colour as kites of different shapes and sizes, some larger than 10 metres tall, are displayed.
• Bali Art Festival: This festival celebration occurs over one month and involves local crafts exhibitions as well as Balinese music and dance performances. There is a parade around the town after the opening ceremony.
